Biography
My name is Jim Ryberg and I am 82 years old. At the age of 76, I was diagnosed with Dementia which brought with it, as my primary symptom, high anxiety. I have now been living in an assisted living facility since 2015. Prior to moving, I was learning to watercolor paint, which I did for several years. Once my anxiety started to increase, I could not decide what subject to paint, so I stopped painting for a while. Then, I discovered Yupo paper which did not absorb the paint; it was like painting on glass. Now, I could put some paint down and just move it around, and if I liked it, wala, that is what I was going for. Three or four days of drying and I had a painting. And if I did not like it, I just started over with something else.
In selling art with Fine Art America, I will be making money on all items being sold, such as art prints, the art on tote bags, phone cases, t-shirts, etc. However, we make no money on the sale of framing. I have always tithed (donated 10 percent of my income), but in selling my art, I have decided to reverse tithe. I will be donating 90 percent of all money received from Fine Art America to the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is a non profit organization and is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Their mission is to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
When I started to paint, I was asked to name each of the paintings. Well, with my anxiety you can guess how that went! However, I did name them. My first painting was called Dementia Delight Number 1. My second painting was called Dementia Delight Number 2, and so on. You adjust to work with what you have or do not have. I hope you enjoy some of my paintings. May God bless you.
(When buying a painting, there is a dropdown menu under the print size tab that will allow you to change the size of your print from the default size.)
